SEATTLE–The software engineer who has been accused of breaching Capital One to steal information on more than 100-million people also stole data from at least 30 other companies, according to prosecutors.
In a new court filing, prosecutors said they found “multiple terabytes of stolen data from other companies, educational institutions and other organizations on seized servers from the bedroom of Paige Thompson, a former employee of Amazon Web Services.”
As CUToday.info reported here, Thompson has been charged with stealing data that included 140,000 Social Security numbers and 80,000 bank account numbers. Thompson was further found to have also obtained credit card applications and one-million Canadian social insurance numbers, which are the equivalent of Social Security numbers in the United States.
A New Filing
In the filing in the U.S. District Court in Western Washington prosecutors said much of the newly discovered stolen data did not contain personal identifying information, according to the New York Times.
“The authorities said they were still working to identify the specific entities from which the data was stolen and they expect to bring additional charges against Ms. Thompson,” the Times reported. “They did not say if Ms. Thompson had obtained the data during her employment at Amazon Web Services.”
Prosecutors have asked that Thompson be denied bail.
