Suspect Shot and Killed in ATM Robbery; CU Security Guard Charged in Separate Card Incident

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A person was shot and killed while allegedly trying to rob an ATM technician outside a credit union here. Separately, a security guard at another CU has been charged with card fraud.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, police received a call for a shooting just after 1:35 p.m. in the parking lot of Vantage Credit Union in the 600 block of Greenway Chase Drive.

Police said two people approached the ATM technician while the individual was servicing the machine. One of the suspects was then shot and the other person drove away from the scene. It's unclear who shot the suspect, according to police.

The wounded suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Panus said the ATM tech stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police.

Security Guard Charged

Separately, in Memphis a security guard at a credit union has allegedly admitted to using a member’s credit card for the unauthorized purchase of electronics from a Best Buy.

According to authorities, Mamodou Sacko, 44, was working as a security guard at the Orion Federal Credit Union when a woman turned a debit card that was left in the ATM by a previous user. Surveillance video shows the woman handing the card over to Sacko, according to the affidavit reported by WMC.

After receiving the card, Sacko allegedly went to Best Buy and purchased two cameras for $152.93 with the woman’s card. She was sent an alert by the credit union saying someone was making unauthorized purchases with her card, WMC reported.

Investigators say Sacko attempted to make more purchases at other businesses, but the card was deactivated by then. Sacko has been charged with fraudulent use of a credit/debit card and property theft.
