AUSTIN, Texas — A Round Rock man has been arrested in connection with the Jan. 28 robbery of Austin Telco Federal Credit Union, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas announced.
According to a criminal complaint summarized by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Syntedrick Tramaine Brown allegedly entered the branch shortly after 10 a.m. wearing a disguise that included a wig, bright headband, reflective sunglasses, mask, hoodie and safety vest. Prosecutors said he climbed over the teller counter while holding what appeared to be a semiautomatic pistol, ordered employees to the floor, moved them to a back room, and directed the manager to withdraw cash from a machine, which he placed in a trash bag. He then told staff to remain in a bathroom before leaving about seven minutes later in a stolen vehicle, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Investigators later determined roughly $113,000 was taken.
Federal agents executed a search warrant on Feb. 2 at a nearby apartment, where they allegedly recovered items matching the disguise seen on surveillance video, along with a substantial amount of cash, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Brown has been charged with one count of bank robbery, which carries up to 20 years in federal prison. The FBI and Austin Police Department are continuing to investigate.
