Suncoast CU Going to Bat With Tampa Bay Rays on Fundraiser

TAMPA, Fla.— Suncoast Credit Union has gone to bat with a partnership program with The Tampa Bay Rays called “Every Hit is a Win with Suncoast” that raises funds for charities.

Under the program, every time a Tampa Bay Rays player gets a base hit or a home run during a game, Suncoast will donate $78 in honor of its 78 branches across Florida. The credit union said it will then collect those donations throughout the month and donate the total amount, up to $15,000 per month, to pre-selected local nonprofit organizations.

According to Suncoast, each month three local nonprofit organizations will compete for votes to receive a percentage of the monthly total. The vote percentage for each organization will determine the donation amount that each organization receives.

This program will launch on May 1.

‘Giving Back Part of DNA’
“Giving back to the community is part of our DNA at Suncoast Credit Union, and this program allows us to celebrate and recognize the incredible nonprofit organizations throughout Florida,” said President and CEO Kevin Johnson. “We are proud to partner with the Tampa Bay Rays on a project that will help to highlight and reward the nonprofits that make our community a vibrant place for everyone.”
The voting for the program will take place on a Facebook Poll on Suncoast’s page.
The First 3 At Bat

Suncoast said the first three nonprofits to participate in the competition include:

  • The Children’s Dream Fund, which makes dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses living throughout West Central Florida. “From puppies to playgrounds, special trips to meetings with celebrities, they help every child referred to them by area hospitals,” Suncoast CU said.
  • HEAVENDROPt, a social enterprise of Evergreen Life Services. “Since 1959, Evergreen has worked to shatter stereotypes and break down barriers for People with disabilities,” the credit union explained. “Every HEAVENDROPt product represents opportunity and income for not only the people served by Evergreen but by Veterans with disabilities who need support.”
  • The Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida, which has 40 clubs in six counties. “Their clubs are in neighborhoods that, on average, rank at the 12th percentile for household income and the 71st percentile for incarceration rates,” Suncoast CU said. “By providing club members with academic support, extracurricular opportunities and positive adult role models, they aim to break the cycle of poverty for future generations.”

The Tampa Bay Rays, who play in the American League’s Eastern Division, are currently off to one of the hottest starts in baseball history and were 15-3 through Wednesday.
