Sun’s Up on San Antonio FCU And Its Branches

SAN ANTONO–San Antonio FCU has made a big investment in solar power.

The credit union has not just installed a rooftop solar system on its main office, it has also installed solar panels on nine of its 15 branches. The credit union told the San Antonio Business Journal its goal is to have a zero carbon footprint; overall it has installed 261 kilowatts of solar power.

SACU Chief Financial Officer Eric Malagamba told the San Antonio Business Journal that the CU has been looking into solar power for several years, and finally made the move as the result of decreasing technology prices and rebates.
SACU has installed solar power on buildings that it both owns and leases. It selected San Antonio-based One80 Solar for the installation. Construction started in April and lasted three months.

Malagamba told the Business Journal that as part of an $800,000 contract the credit union agreed to pay around $500,000 in cash while One80 Solar will get to keep the $300,000 or so in rebates from CPS Energy.
