RICHLAND, Wash.–Residents in this community have been receiving cards in the mail claiming to be from HAPO Community CU that claim to target people with
mortgages and which provide a special number to call.
The cards are a scam and police are currently uncertain who is behind them. “You have recently closed on this mortgage with Hapo Community CU,” The cards read. “We need you to please call us about an important matter regarding this loan. This is time-sensitive so please call us at 833-700-1941 as soon as possible.”
NewsTalk 870 reported the cards appear to target everyone regardless of whether they are a HAPO Community member or have a mortgage. The phone number is also bogus.
Police are urging anyone receiving the cards to contact them.
The $1.6-billion HAPO Community has approximately 166,000 members.
