CLEVELAND, Ohio–The 2,700 members of Plain Dealer Federal Credit Union (PDFCU) here, which serves the newspaper of the same name, have voted in favor of joining Hilliard-based Credit Union of Ohio.
The merger is to take place May 1.
The credit union said CU of Ohio was chosen because of its dedication to preserve existing staff and community relationships, as well as its growing presence and ability to serve those in Cuyahoga County and surrounding areas.
The $18.6-million Plain Dealer FCU reported a loss of $87,874 at year-end 2021, with net worth of 14.95%.
Following the merger, the PDFCU branch in Parma, 5341 Pearl Road, will stay open and all four current employees will be retained through the partnership.
In addition, CU of Ohio said, PDFCU members will have access to enhanced products and services, including mortgages, a rewards Visa credit card, money market accounts, expanded online and mobile banking options, and free financial coaching. Members will also have access to five additional branch locations throughout Ohio and a shared branching network with over 5,600 credit unions nationwide.

The $200.6-million Credit Union of Ohio has approximately 21,000 members.
