HILLSBORO, Ore.— A type of crime against credit union physical facilities that had seen a spike in attacks—using vehicles to pull ATMs from buildings and vestibules—before fading, nevertheless remains a threat as one incident here shows.
A stolen Ford F350 was used to pull out an ATM from a branch of First Tech Credit Union in the early hours of a Sunday morning, causing an extensive amount of damage in the process, according to KOIN.
KOIN reported that around 3:25 a.m. someone called police to report the crime in progress. Hillsboro police rushed to the First Tech Credit Union on Cornell Rd. and found a 2006 Ford F-350 with a chain hooked to it.
The chain was attached to the ATM and the pickup had been used to pulled it out. Police said the ATM was severely damaged by whoever was trying to get inside, but officials declined to not say whether the thief actually got any money, according to KOIN.
Investigators found out the Ford F350 was stolen just a few minutes before the crime.
