Stay Home, Sherlock: Robbery Suspect Makes Himself Rather Easy To Find

ROANOKE, Va.–A man named as a suspect in a credit union robbery here has allegedly been undone by what he used as his robbery note: one of his own starter checks.

The robber in which Rashad D. Harris essentially identified himself took place at a branch of Wells Fargo, but authorities say he has pleaded guilty to six robberies, including one at Northern Star Credit Union.

According to the Virginian Pilot, Chesapeake police and federal investigators got a break in the Wells Fargo robbery, after the suspect walked into a branch and handed the teller a note that demanded money. He left with the cash, but left the note behind. A Wells Fargo employee noticed the note was written on a Wells Fargo starter check, and then ran the account number through the bank's database and determined it was issued to Rashad Harris, according to court documents and the Virginian Pilot.

The employee then went on Facebook, found Harris' account and determined he was the man who had robbed the place and contacted police, the publication reported.

Investigators located Harris Jan. 17 and took him into custody, along with his sister, Shaquita. Both were wanted on outstanding warrants, the Virginian-Pilot said.

Authorities said Harris, 26, eventually confessed to the robberies at Advance America, BB&T and Wells Fargo, while Shaquita Harris also confessed to a robbery at Title Max. Authories also decided Rashad Harris was "likely one of the suspects" in the Northern Star robbery and another Title Max robbery after reviewing security footage.
