SEATTLE—Equality Washington, which is seeking to open a credit union for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities, has launched a crowd-funding campaign that is seeking to raise $50,000 to be used as it works to quality for a charter.
The fundraising campaign is being hosted on Indiegogo, with the credit union saying funds raised will be used to underwrite the cost of expenses for attorneys, CPAs, outreach and development of a three-year business plan. All donations are tax deductible. Equality Washington said it is currently in discussions with a number of local credit unions regarding potential partnerships, and has not ruled out a merger with an existing CU.
Equality Washington reported that a survey it conducted of potential members found that of respondents, 82% said they would open accounts in the first year.
