Square Introduces New APIs to Help Developers Build eCommerce Solutions

SAN FRANCISCO—Square will be debuting new APIs, which it says will help developers and partners build eCommerce solutions.

The two APIs are Bookings API and Checkout API, Pymnts.com said, citing a report on Square’s blog.

Bookings API is already available, and will help developers leverage the functionality of Square Appointments within the app, letting developers make and manage bookings, search availability of staff members, send automated text and email reminders and other things.

Checkout API is a way to integrate Square through a checkout page hosted by the company, which works through text, website, internal dashboard, in-store and other things, according to the company.

‘Flexible Configuration’

The new version of that API comes with features like “flexible configuration; supports new payment methods like Afterpay, Cash App Pay, and Square Pay; and is available in more countries than before,” the blog noted.

Square also debuted Cash App Pay for developers, which enables developers use the Square checkout flow to support payments with Cash App, Pymnts.com said.

Square has also debuted new beta features for Terminal API and will unlock new omnichannel uses. It will come with order itemization for the Terminal device, delayed capture to authorize a payment upfront and app fees to let developers monetize, the report added.
