KANSAS CITY, Mo./SAN FRANCISCO—If the Giants win the World Series, San Francisco FCU’s Steven Stapp will hand out bottles of barbecue sauce to staff. If the Kansas City Royals prevail, Mazuma CU’s Brandon Michaels will dole out sourdough bread to the team.
That’s the bet between the CEOs. Michaels, who leads the $505-million Mazuma in Kansas City, accepted the challenge from SFFCU’s Stapp. If the Giants lose, Michaels sends Stapp and SFFCU some of the city’s famous Kansas City BBQ sauce. If the Royals win, Stapp ships Michaels and Mazuma San Francisco’s trademark sourdough bread.
The CU in the losing city will also contribute to charities in the opposing communities: Mazuma will contribute to St. Anthony’s, a social services foundation in San Francisco, and the $911-million San Francisco Federal will donate to Spofford House, a similar social services organization located in Kansas City.
