SAN FRANCISCO—San Francisco FCU here is now awaiting a delivery of barbecue sauce.
The credit union had placed a wager with Mazuma Credit Union on the San Francisco Giants/Kansas City Royals World Series, and with the Giants four-games-to-three win in the series, it's San Francisco FCU that will be doing the collecting.
The two credit unions had wagered food items for which their respective hometowns are famous. In the case of San Francisco FCU, it wagered sourdough bread. Mazuma wagered some of the city’s famous Kansas City BBQ sauce. In addition, the two credit unions had also agreed that the losing city would contribute to charities in the opposing communities: Mazuma had agreed to contribute to St. Anthony’s, a social services foundation in San Francisco, while the $911-million San Francisco Federal had agreed to make a donation to Spofford House, a similar social services organization located in Kansas City.
