MERCED, Calif.—Another skimming attack has led to thousands of dollars stolen from CU members’ accounts.
This time the theft occurred at an ATM located at the Atwater, Calif., office of MERCO Credit Union. The alleged thief was captured by a surveillance camera installing the device.
Police say the crook installed the device on February 16 and removed it on February 17. As a result, about 120 accounts were compromised for more than $24,000, FOX 26 News reported.
As CUToday.info has extensively reported, skimming attacks are on the rise as crooks turn to alternative methods to steal card data as the U.S. migrates to EMV.
