Six People Arrested As Suspects In Robbery Ring

GRAND RAPIDS – Six people have been charged in connection with a credit union robbery ring that targeted several credit unions in the state.

In all, the six are alleged to be involved in eight robberies of credit unions and one attempted robbery between Sept. 9 and Dec. 11. Charged were Angelo Mitchell, Allante Williams, Terrell Reese, James Steen, Defonta Howard and Jonathan Daffin.

Among the credit unions robbed in which the six were allegedly involved were Astera Credit Union, Genisys Credit Union, Community Choice Credit Union, Lake Trust Credit Union, and CASE Credit Union. Police also believe the six were on their way to rob a branch of Dearborn FCU at the time they were arrested. At the time they were stopped they were wearing makeup on their faces.

Police say they are still looking for Scantavia Ronda Isaac, who is also believed to be part of the conspiracy.

A reward fund orchestrated by MCUL & Affiliates, including $5,000 from the league itself that matched other pledges, was not used in the investigation of the string of credit union robberies.

“We've had very good feedback from several credit union CEOs thanking us for the efforts in organizing the pledges and working with the Lansing Police Department, even though it wasn't actually utilized this go around,” said Ken Ross, COO and executive vice president of MCUL & Affiliates. “The Lansing police were very thankful for our efforts to make a reward available if the investigation stalled.”
