PANAMA CITY, Fla.–Six months after portions of its communities were devastated by Hurricane Michael in October of 2018, Tyndall FCU has created a video highlighting the recovery work done by its employees.
Hurricane Michael damaged more than 15,000 homes in the Florida panhandle and affected approximately half of the $1.3-billion TFCU’s members.
“As a tribute to staff’s hard work,” Tyndall FCU said it created the video to “remember what it went through and celebrate how far it has come.”
Tyndall Federal said it was able to use its disaster communication plan to establish contact with all its employees within three days, even with limited cell phone service and debris-strewn roads. The credit union reported that despite the damage, within two weeks of the storm, 87% of its employees had reported to work.
Assistance for Members
In the wake of the storm Tyndall FCU began offering assistance in the community, including providing free gas, fast-food meals, Thanksgiving turkeys, groceries, and Visa gift cards.
One day prior to Thanksgiving, 2018, Tyndall FCU reported it also deposited more than $2.7 million into the accounts of members residing in the FEMA-declared disaster areas, with $50 added to each of the accounts. It further provided low-rate loans, payment deferrals and forbearance for mortgage payments.
