ANAHEIM, Calif.— The Shapiro Summit, the premier gathering for credit unions under $287 million in assets, closed out with record attendance and a poignant farewell.
Nearly 140 participants from across three states came together at the JW Marriott Anaheim to collaborate on solutions for small institutions—while also marking the final Shapiro Summit appearance of Scott Simpson, president and CEO of California’s, Nevada’s, and Utah’s Credit Unions.
Simpson, who will soon step into his new role as president and CEO of America’s Credit Unions, opened the conference with reflections on his time with the leagues and a charge to small credit unions to “keep fighting the good fight.”
More than just a milestone, this year’s summit underscored the growing value of collaboration for smaller institutions. Attendees connected with peers facing similar challenges, shared practical strategies, and explored solutions designed to help mission-driven credit unions compete, grow, and better serve their members.
The summit kicked off on with a CEO Roundtable led by Simpson, who transitions to his new role at ACU on Nov. 3.
Simpson opened the conference, sharing a few words and reflecting on his time with the leagues.
“This is the last Shapiro Summit I will have the honor of attending,” he said. “I am leaving with the full confidence that Shapiro credit unions across California, Nevada, and Utah will continue to fight the good fight. You are the heartbeat of the credit union movement, and your commitment to your members and communities is an example to all.”
Simpson said his move to Capitol Hill will allow him to amplify credit unions on a national stage.
“I will always remember the collaborative spirit and passion for serving members that defines this incredible group of credit union leaders,” he added.
Heartbeat Of The Event: Networking And Collaboration
Throughout the conference, small credit union CEOs noted the event’s value.
“They said the content was relevant and provided a fresh perspective on the challenges their credit unions face. The small, intimate setting of the Shapiro Summit is routinely highlighted as a factor in its success each year, allowing for a level of open dialogue and peer collaboration,” California’s Credit Unions stated.
