…Several CUs’ Offerings Do Appear on Another List Of Best Plastic

FORT KNOX, Ky.–A number of credit unions are being recognized nationally for the competitiveness of their credit card offers by MagnifyMoney.com.

Among them is Fort Knox FCU, which offers a Visa Platinum card that has been listed as the top pick for gas cards by the website.

The card offers an unlimited 5% cash back option on gasoline purchases and no annual fee.

MagnifyMoney.com noted the card is only available to members, but as it does with several other credit unions, also makes clear that FKFCU can be joined for a $15 membership fee.

Fort Knox FCU’s card carries an APR that ranges from 10.25% to 15.25%.

In the gas card category, MagnifyMoney.com also named cards offered by Sam’s Club, Costco, BofA and Wells Fargo as top picks.

Other cards listed include:

  • Chicago-based Alliant Credit Union’s Cashback Visa Signature card, which offers 2.5% cash back.“If you’re willing to pay a $59 annual fee, this card offers a big 2.5% unlimited cash back on everything you spend,” said MagnifyMoney.com. “Alliant is a credit union anyone can join online and you don’t need to be a member to apply. There’s also a special 3% cash back rate for your first year, with no annual fee either. If you travel abroad there are no foreign transaction fees to worry about. So, is the fee worth it? Basically, if you spend more than $1,000 a month on the card, you’ll earn more than the annual fee in cash back compared to the Citi Double Cash Card.” MagnifyMoney.com, which grades every card offering on an A-F scale, gave Alliant a “Transparency Score” of B since the interest rate on the card is unknown until the consumer applies for the card.
  • New Mexico-based Nusenda was rated highly among cards offering 5% cash back with no enrollment fee for its Platinum Cash Rewards card. “If you want 5% in rotating categories each quarter without having to enroll each quarter, consider the NUSENDA Credit Union’s Platinum Cash Rewards card,” said MagnfyMoney.com in its analysis. “You’re automatically eligible for 5% cash rewards each quarter, up to $1,500 worth of spending across the categories each quarter. Currently that’s typically a $1,500 per quarter maximum, like the Chase Freedom. But the categories where you can earn 5% are a bit broader. “The introductory bonus is the weakest of the bunch, and offers 2% on all your purchases for the first 90 days,” the site goes on to say in its analysis. “You’d have to spend $15,000 in 90 days to beat the Chase Freedom’s $150 sign on-bonus (earn a $150 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first three months from account opening).”

Somewhat oddly, MagnifyMoney.com graded Nusenda a C “because you need to join a credit union,” even though it noted “anyone” can join Nusenda.
