WASHINGTON–Credit unions are backing seven different candidates in primary races being held in three states today.
The elections are being held in West Virginia (where one candidate has CU backing), Maryland (where three candidates have CU backing) and Nebraska (where three candidates are backed by CUs).
America’s Credit Unions’ chief advocacy officer, Carrie Hunt, said the trade group and its PAC have supported 129 candidates to date, 99% of whom have won their races.
‘It Will be Very Tight’
“With the general election in November it’s certainly top of mind for America's Credit unions to make sure that we're doing our part and supporting candidates that support issues that are important to us,” Hunt said. “It will be a very tight. I think it will be an interesting the election season. Every time I speak to Democrats they're sure they're going to win. Every time I speak to Republicans, they're sure they're going to win. This is an incredibly important election to see the shift or no shift in Congress and, of course, in the White House.”
