LEWISBURG, Penn.–Service 1st FCU has entered into a name, image, likeness (NIL) deal with Bucky the Bison, the mascot for Bucknell University athletics.
Bucky’s two-year NIL agreement officially launched when Bucknell began its football season. Bucky was outside Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium before the game taking photos with kids and passing out souvenirs from Service 1st Federal Credit Union.
“Bucky exemplifies fun and community, two core values that are at the heart of our credit union,” said Bill Lavage, president/CEO, Service 1st FCU, in a statement. “What Bucky brings to the fan atmosphere at sporting events and throughout the community is irreplaceable. Bucky is a devoted humanitarian. We look forward to working with Bucky and having a positive impact throughout ourcommunity.”
Service 1st said it believes it’s deal with Bucky is the first of its kind in college sports with a mascot.
The deal was secured by LEARFIELD’s Bucknell Sports Properties, the university’s athletics multimedia rightsholder, resulting in a new department-wide initiative to make Bucky available for select paid appearances in the community.
‘Highly Desirable Position’
“Bucknell students selected for the highly desirable mascot position will wear a jersey patch co-branded with Service 1st Federal Credit Union when attending certain events as Bucky the Bison,” the organization said. “With an increase in requests for appearances from Bucky at birthday parties and other local events, this new deal will make Bucknell’s beloved mascot an even bigger presence in the community by allowing students to be compensated for their hard work behind the scenes.”
