WASHINGTON—The Senate Friday approved a short-term measure to fund the federal government until April 28, avoiding a shutdown deadline by less than an hour.
The bill passed 63-36. President Obama signed the funding measure early Saturday morning.
The Senate last week also passed the fiscal year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act; the president is expected to sign the bill.
The final NDAA does not include a Senate amendment that would have given military banks rent-free space on military bases. NAFCU said it had been following that provision to ensure it would not interfere with or disadvantage existing rent-free arrangements for military credit unions.
The bill authorizes $618.7 billion in defense funding and is the result of a compromise between the House and Senate Armed Services Committees. The House passed the bill earlier this month.
The Senate also passed a water bill providing $170 million in aid to Flint, Mich., which has suffered from contaminated tap water for nearly two years.
