Seattle CU in Partnership with Small Business Incubator to Present Workshops

SEATTLE–Seattle Credit Union is reporting it has entered into a partnership with the William Factory Small Business Incubator to present workshops for small business owners and entrepreneurs in the local community.

According to the credit union, by providing training, capital, networking, and coaching, Tacoma, Wash.-based William Factory Small Business Incubator has helped more than 200 entrepreneurs start their businesses, leading to the creation of more than 1,000 jobs over the past 33 years in the South Sound region.

The company’s focus is to work with historically underserved segments of the community, Seattle Credit Union said.

Matching the Mission

“Partnerships like this are exciting because they match our mission and help the local business community,” Seattle Credit Union’s Business Services Manager Mark Wornath said in a statement. “I am passionate about business education, and this is a superb opportunity to help historically underserved entrepreneurs learn more about what it takes to grow -- and thrive.”

Seattle Credit Union said it teamed up with William Factory Small Business Incubator to host the workshops at its new community workshop space at the Hilltop branch.

At a recent workshop, Wornath and Alani Nguyen, a business finance consultant with William Factory, collaborated to provide banking literacy and business skills and address questions from the attendees, according to Seattle CU.

‘Looking for Ways to Engage’

"As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) with a primary mission to promote economic development by providing financial products and services to people and communities underserved by traditional financial institutions, Seattle Credit Union is always looking for new ways to engage with communities in need,” Leif Hatlen, SVP-member business lending, said in a statement. “This partnership does exactly that: provides education, information, and access to capital for the businesses and people who need it most."

Added CEO Richard Romero, “The collaboration between Seattle Credit Union and William Factory Small Business Incubator is not just a partnership, but a powerful step towards empowering historically underserved entrepreneurs and fostering the growth of local businesses. This is a testament to our shared vision of a thriving and inclusive business community.”
