RICHLAND, Wash–Members of HAPO Community Credit Union are facing a new fraud threat this holiday season—one that asks members to place their funds in a Bitcoin ATM for “safekeeping.”
In a post (see below) on its Facebook page, the $2.4-billion HAPO informs members about the fraudulent letters.
The credit union message explains the crooks are using the HAPO logo on letters that ask them to withdraw funds and deposit the money into a Bitcoin ATM to keep their deposits safe.
HAPO's post reminds members it will never ask members them to withdraw funds to prevent fraud.
HAPO adds that if members receive a suspicious letter, email or text, they should contact the CU immediately, and lists its number.
