Samsung Electronics Canada, Canadian CU Trade Group In Agreement On Payments

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Samsung Electronics Canada has announced a new partnership with the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) on a payments solution for its 240 member CUs.

The first to introduce the service, Interac Debit on Samsung Pay, will be Steinbach CU, which will allow members to make direct purchases from their checking or savings accounts at select retailers using eligible Samsung devices.

As the first Canadian credit union to launch Samsung Pay, Steinbach Credit Union will offer a mobile payment solution the company said will be:

  • Simple: To make a payment on Samsung Pay, users can simply swipe up, scan their fingerprint, iris or input their four-digit PIN, and tap to pay.
  • More Secure: Samsung Pay uses three different levels of security to enable more secure payments – fingerprint or iris authentication, tokenization and Samsung Knox, Samsung's defense-grade mobile security platform.
  • Widely Accepted: Users can pay almost anywhere a card can be tapped or swiped.

"Samsung is committed to driving innovation, whether that's through our Samsung Pay services or through our latest products – like the Galaxy S10. It's about creating a seamless mobile ecosystem that simplifies the day-to-day lives of our customers and partners," said Steven Cull, director of Corporate Strategy, Samsung Electronics Canada in a statement. "We were thrilled to find another partner that was equally as committed to providing fast and secure digital payment options for its customers as we are."
