ORANGE, Texas–Kenita Dougharty is retiring as CEO of Sabine FCU, and a successor has been named.
Effective May 6, Dougharty plans to step down after 28 years with the credit union, including five as president/CEO. Current CFO Kristi Charrier has been named to lead the organization following Dougharty’s retirement.
Dougharty joined Sabine FCU, then known as DuPont SRW Employees FCU, in January 1994, according to the Cornerstone Credit Union League. She is a 2007 honors graduate of Southwest CUNA Management School, and during her Sabine FCU career, she has held several positions, including eight years as the chief financial officer, before being promoted to CEO in October 2016.
Successful Tenure
Under Dougharty’s tenure, Sabine FCU has opened a branch in Bridge City, Texas, launched two successful InstanTTellers (ITMs), expanded its charter to include Jasper, Newton, and Tyler counties in Texas, increased total loans and deposits increased, and overseen asset growth to $238 million.
“In addition, Dougharty guided the credit union with empathy and compassion through several major disasters that affected both employees and members,” the Cornerstone League said.
According to Sabine FCU, Charrier’s selection as president and CEO follows years of leadership development and an extensive career at Sabine FCU. Charrier began her career as a teller when the Strickland office opened in August 1995. She moved to the accounting department in 1998 and was promoted to vice president of accounting in 2007. Charrier was named CFO in October 2016. Charrier is a 2013 graduate of Southwest CUNA Management School and is a Certified Credit Union Investments Professional.
Other Executive Changes
Sabine FCU also announced that Tina Nimitz, who has been chief operating officer for the last five years, will continue in her position and be in the second position on the senior leadership team at Sabine FCU.
Kristen Placette will become CFO. She has 18 years of experience in the credit union industry and has served the last 11 years as the VP of marketing for Sabine FCU. She is a 2017 SCMS Award of Excellence graduate and has received her Credit Union Compliance Expert Certification, according to the credit union.
