SB1 FCU Is Changing Its Name

PHILADELPHIA–SB1 FCU, which was formed relatively recently in 1977 to serve employees at the drug maker that is now known as GlaxoSmithKline, is changing its name.

It will now be known as Ardent Credit Union, following NCUA’s approval of its move to a community charter that would open it to all residents, workers and students in Philadelphia and four suburban Pennsylvania counties.

The $600-million CU said the Ardent name is intended to evoke "passion" for member service, according to its CEO, Rob Werner. The former name, Sb1, was a reflection of its original sponsor, SmithKline Beecham.
