Rocky Mountain CU Reports Member Data Possibly Compromised

HELENA, Mont.–Rocky Mountain Credit Union here has alerted approximately 135 of its members that some of their personal information could have been publicly accessible through its website between April 15 and June 30.

According to the Billings Gazette, RMCU’s CEO, Ed Stofko, said the CU’s information technology staff found a security issue with the website members used to upload documents while applying for a mortgage.

The Gazette reported that an outside investigation determined it was unlikely that the documents were accessed by an unauthorized person, but the credit union is offering affected members a free one-year membership to credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. The credit union says the security flaw has been repaired.

Among the information that could have been potentially breached is members’ Social Security number, account numbers and driver's license numbers.
