COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho–A suspect in an attempted robbery of a credit union here is dead after being shot by an armed security guard.
According to Coeur d’Alene police, the suspect entered a branch of Global Credit Union and showed a gun. In a statement, Global Credit Union said the suspect fired his weapon, although police have not confirmed that.
“The armed security officer inside the bank recognized the threat and drew his gun and fired at the suspect, hitting him at least once,” the police said in a released statement “The suspect attempted to flee from the bank but succumbed to his injuries, collapsing inside the building.”
City police, Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies and Idaho State Police troopers all responded. Police said lifesaving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful.
No credit union employees were injured and the name of the suspect has not yet been released.
