Robbery At CU’s ATM Leads To Shots Being Fired

FORT MYERS, Fla.—Two men robbed a couple at an ATM at the Suncoast Schools Credit Union on Palm Beach Boulevard and exchanged gunfire with one of the victims after they fled the scene.

The victims were trying to deposit cash at the ATM around 1 a.m. when they were approached by two men with pistols, the News-Press reported.

The male driver stated that one of the suspects pointed a gun at him, then grabbed the cash he was about to deposit. The suspect also unsuccessfully tried to withdraw money from the ATM. The second suspect ordered the female passenger to hand over her purse, which she did, and the men fled on foot on Palm Beach Boulevard, the News-Press reported.

As soon as the suspects started to run, the male driver exited the vehicle and drew a Smith and Wesson .380 and started to chase after the suspects, while the female passenger called 911. One of the suspects and the male victim exchanged gunfire but neither were injured. The suspects are believed to have left the area in a blue SUV waiting nearby, the News-Press reported.

The first suspect is described as a 5’10”, 160 pounds, about 25, wearing a red and white long-sleeved hooded sweater with his face covered and carrying a silver and black pistol. The second suspect is 5’7”, 130 pounds, roughly 20, wearing a grey long-sleeved hooded sweatshirt, carrying a brown and black pistol.
