Robber Fatally Shot by Policeman

DES MOINES, Iowa — A man who robbed a credit union was fatally shot by police during his getaway.

Police reported that 30-year-old, white male, Nicholas Ryan Brickman, was shot in the chest by officer Scott Newman.

Brickman robbed an office of the $50-million Tradesmen Community CU here and then fled in a black sedan with an undisclosed amount of money. With police in pursuit, Brickman quickly parked the sedan and then successfully carjacked an SUV in front of police.

With police in pursuit of Brickman in the SUV, the robber crashed the vehicle into another car, and then fled on foot.

Police quickly cornered Brickman, who allegedly pointed a gun at Newman before the officer fired. Newman is on leave pending an investigation of the shooting.
