CROSSFIELD, Alberta, Canada—The rash of vehicles crashing into CUs continues, but this time the wreck was no accident.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in southern Alberta have arrested a suspect after he allegedly tried to break into an office of Mountain View Credit Union here by driving a large tanker truck into it, Global News reported.
After being called to the CU about the attempted robbery, Mounties caught up with the alleged robber who was driving the tanker truck on a local highway. The crook failed to stop for police.
The police pursuit went through two towns before the truck continued northbound in the southbound lanes of the main highway between Edmonton and Calgary. The vehicle, which turned out to be stolen, eventually crashed into a field and the driver was nabbed after a brief foot chase, Global News reported.
The tanks were carrying anhydrous ammonia, commonly used on farms as a fertilizer. The report did not state if money was taken from the credit union. The crash occurred early in the morning when the credit union was closed.
As CUToday.info reported here earlier, credit union facilities are frequently struck by vehicles.
