Robber Attempts To Steal ATM Using Tractor; Jumps Off, Tractor Keeps Going

RUTLAND, Vt. – A robber who attempted to steal cash from an ATM/night deposit box at Green River Credit Union here by ramming the machine with a tractor is being sought by state police.

The suspect, described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a light-colored hoodie and light-colored pants, heavily damaged the CU’s building and its night deposit box but failed in his attempt at getting any cash, police said.

The incident was reported shortly after 2:30 a.m. by members of the Fair Haven Rescue Squad, according to a release issued by state police.

They were returning from a hospital run and saw the suspect ramming an ATM on the north side of the building. The suspect fled in the tractor while troopers were en route, then jumped from the tractor and escaped into the woods. The tractor continued to travel through the lawn behind and apartment complex and only stopped after it struck a large tree, just a few feet from a residential building.
