Rhode Island’s CUs Look to Score By Sponsoring High School Basketball ‘Season’

PROVIDENCE, R.I.–Credit unions in Rhode Island, which have traditionally sponsored the state’s high school basketball tournament, are now sponsoring the entire season this year, which has been condensed into a one-month timeframe due to the pandemic.

In addition to a shortened season, there will be no state tournament. Instead, the culmination of the season, scheduled for the last weekend in February, will be the divisional championships for both the boys and girls in divisions I, II and III, according to the Cooperative Credit Union Association, which first reported the sponsorship.

“The Credit Unions of Rhode Island are once again proud to be the presenting sponsor for the 31st year. The Credit Unions of Rhode Island are featured under the banner of the Cooperative Credit Union Association’s (CCUA) consumer awareness campaign, ‘Better Values - Better Banking,’ the CCUA reported. “Both fans and players alike will see the consumer credit union brand logo throughout the season.”

According to the CCUA, during the abbreviated season, participating credit unions can take advantage of some great publicity opportunities, including:

  • Social media mentions as the sponsor throughout the season
  • Banner promoting credit unions as the overall sponsor displayed during games
  • Social media mention as a sponsor of specific basketball matchups.
  • Digital program guide with credit union ads
