KINGSTOWN, R.I.–Rhode Island’s credit unions and Alloya Corporate once again sponsored the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Credit Union Basketball Championships.
The championships were played at the University of Rhode Island's Ryan Center where signage related to sponsoring credit unions was highly visible. At the two-day event hats and trophies were presented to winners by credit union representatives.
The state’s credit unions also sponsor a final four of teams as part of a shoot-out competition during half-time of both championship games. This competition includes a credit union representative, a student, and an administrator from the schools represented in the final four as they compete for the highest points scored and the chance to win a scholarship for their school, according to the Cooperative Credit Union Association.
On Sunday, between the girls’ and boys’ championship games, the Special Olympics Rhode Island Unified Basketball exhibition game is played. Special Olympics Rhode Island is the charity partner for the Credit Unions of Rhode Island, the CCUA reported.
