Retiring CEO Given a Surprise Car Parade

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.–A CEO here was given a surprise car parade as a way to honor him upon his retirement, with so many people participating it created a traffic pattern on WAZE.

Almost 100 Harvard University Employees Credit Union staff, board members, industry friends, and family surprised Gene Foley, who is retiring from HUECU, with the retirement car parade as a way of paying tribute while also remaining socially distant, according to the Cooperative Credit Union Association, which first reported the news.

Foley recently shared some of the lessons he has learned during his career as CEO with CUToday.info readers here.

“While Gene was picking blueberries from his front garden, his lawn was rushed by HUECU employees (with masks) setting up decorations, including a six-foot cutout of Gene, a six-foot champagne bottle and “CONGRATS GENE” lawn signs,” the CCUA reported. “As frantic staff decorated, dozens of cars drove by.”

According to the CCUA, cars were decorated with mustaches, Foley cutouts, and fishing gear.

A WAZE Traffic Pattern

“The sound of honking horns and Gene themed cowbells overtook the neighborhood and even created traffic pattern on Waze--his neighbors were also in on the surprise,” the CCUA said. “Gene’s favorite snacks were also thrown onto his lawn as people drove by his home.”

Foley was presented with HUECU gifts, including a custom-made canoe, a photobook e-signed by HUECU staff and a fishing-themed cake, the CCUA said.
