BELOIT, Wis.–An inert grenade was found inside a car that First Community CU here had repossessed and parked in its lot.
Local police were called to the credit union after someone discovered the grenade in the car’s glovebox. When authorities arrived and saw the grenade, people in the area of the credit union were ordered to shelter in place, WKOV reported.
The car was repossessed in Janesville, Wis., several weeks ago and the credit union was preparing to put it on sale, the news station reported.
Authorities called in the bomb squad from the Sheriff's Office in Winnebago County, Ill., which determined the grenade was inert. The bomb squad took care of disposing of the device.
