Read All About It: Merger Proposed In California

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–Two California credit unions have announced merger plans.

Members of the $14.1-million McClatchy Employees Credit Union have been asked to vote by the board in favor of merging into First U.S. Community Credit Union.

The credit unions said they have already received regulatory approval for the combination.

The merger will create a “partnership that expands the products and services and benefits that our combined credit union will provide for you and your family,” MECU told members in a statement.

Founded in 1935, McClatchy Employees Credit Union serves employees of the sponsor company of the same name, which publishes a number of newspapers in the U.S., including the Miami Herald, the Charlotte Observer and the Fresno Bee.

First U.S. Community CU has $372 million in assets and approximately 25,300 members.
