LAKE JACKSON, Texas–Local rap artists were mistaken for bank robbers as police swarmed to a branch of TDECU here that they thought was being held up on New Year’s Day.
Police responded to reports from onlookers about four men dressed in black attire, wearing black masks, carrying bags of money and holding real guns. But instead of being crooks, the would-be robbers were a rap group, Tru and his crew.
“It was a bad idea with a good reason,” Tru told Click 2 Houston.
Tru and his musical partner, Yung Groovey, decided to shoot a rap video at the credit union. A robbery was part of the video. The rappers did not tell the CU they were shooting at one of its offices, nor did they inform the police. The branch was closed for the holiday.
The fake robbery attracted the authorities, who drew their guns and forced the rappers to lay on the ground, the news station reported.
In the end, the rappers were questioned and explained what they were doing No charges were filed against them, the news station reported.
