President Declares June to be National Homeownership Month

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump has declared June to be "National Homeownership Month," with the goal of recognizing "the many benefits of homeownership to our families, our communities, and our nation."
"This month, we recommit to ensuring that hard-working Americans enjoy a fair chance at becoming homeowners," added Trump in his proclamation. Trump said he is working with Congress on a "pro-growth agenda of reducing rules and regulations" in order to help speed the country's economic recovery and strengthen the housing market, NAFCU said.
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger noted credit unions' history of providing responsible mortgage loans to members.
"Credit unions work each day to support their members' homeownership dreams, helping to make those dreams a reality in a responsible way," Berger said. "We appreciate the president's recognition of this important goal and look forward to working together to help credit unions continue to serve their members in this area."
As the administration and Congress look toward reform of the housing finance sector, NAFCU said it is working to ensure any final reform package ensures credit unions' access to the secondary mortgage market and prioritizes loan quality over loan volume.
