Police Searching For CU Employee Who Allegedly Used Counterfeit Cash To Cover Embezzlement

DANVILLE, Va.–Police here say they are searching for an employee of a credit union who allegedly embezzled “large amounts of U.S. currency.”

According to the Danville Police Dept., Jorge Omar Navarro, Jr. allegedly took an undisclosed amount of funds from URW Community FCU and then allegedly replaced it with counterfeit currency.

“The credit union’s management also found him to be stealing money and replacing it with fake bills, the warrant states,” GoDanRiver.com reported. “Such fake money is sold on eBay under the term ‘prop money’ and ‘Hollywood money.’”

Danville Police Department Lt. Mike Wallace told GoDanRiver.com investigators are unsure how much money was stolen over an undisclosed amount of time.

According to the warrant, they searched Navarro’s house, which his parents own, and found a roll of counterfeit $1 bills, financial documents and money bands.

Navarro has been charged with one felony count of embezzlement of $500 or more, Wallace told GoDanRiver.com, adding that rather than bringing multiple charges of theft, one embezzlement charge is easier to bring.
