DULUTH, Ga.—Credit unions in this state are celebrating International Credit Union Week throughout the month of October by participating in a “Switch to Save” campaign that urges Georgia residents to stop by a credit union and see how it can save them money.
Those CUs that are participating have been offered various loan options for the month-long campaign. A member or potential member can bring in two months of statements from another type of financial institution to determine if switching their loan to the credit union will save them money, according to Georgia CU Affiliates. GCUA reported that Georgia CU members received more than $124 million in member benefits they would not have obtained had they conducted their business with for-profit institutions. In the northwest, meanwhile, credit unions are planning to “Pay It Forward” on International CU Day, Oct. 16, by handing out cash. The effort in Washington and Oregon is being led by the Northwest CU Association, which has developed a number of resources around the event, including a cash-wrapper to “drive home the credit union difference.”
