Planning a Marketing Tie-in To Amazon Prime Day? It’s Moving

SEATTLE–Credit unions that build marketing promotions around Amazon’s massively popular Prime Day need to pay attention–the event is moving to a different day in 2021.

Amazon plans to hold Prime Day in June rather than July this year, according to a CNET report, which quoted Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky.

The company is apparently looking to a June date for a number of reasons, including not competing with the summer Olympics and to offer better timing for summer travel plans and graduations.

The exact dates for Prime Day, which despite the name typically runs for two days, have not yet been revealed. Amazon typically uses Prime Day to offer big discounts on its own devices, including the Echo, Fire tablets, Kindles, and Fire TV streamers.

While there numbers aren’t yet large, a number of credit unions have launched annual Prime Day marketing tie-ins, including MSU FCU in East Lansing, Mich., to promote credit and debit cards.
