Plaintiffs Being Sought for Potential Class Action Against CU Over Breach

LIVERMORE, Calif.–Attorneys who are working with ClassAction.org have published a notice they are considering a class action lawsuit against OE Federal Credit Union over a data breach.

In short, they are seeking plaintiffs who received a notice from the credit union that they may have been affected by the 2023 breach at the $1.47-billion OE FCU, which serves Operating Engineers Local Union #3.

“A recently announced security breach at OE Federal Credit Union resulted in unauthorized access to its network, potentially exposing personal information of individuals,” ClassActions.org stated in its notice. The breach occurred between August 19, 2023, and October 29, 2023, according to a letter sent to those affected.”

The posting includes a link to a notice posted on the credit union's website that states that various personal, financial and medical information may have been exposed in the OE Federal Credit Union data breach, “though not all information was impacted for all individuals. The compromised information may include names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, financial account information, credit/debit card details, taxpayer ID numbers, driver's license or government ID numbers, usernames and passwords, passport numbers, medical information, and health insurance information.”

The ClassActions.org notice goes on to add, “If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more. A successful case could also force OE Federal Credit Union to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.”

Such a notice is not a first for ClassActions.org, which has sought plaintiffs in actions against other credit unions in the past.
