PHILADELPHIA–The City of Philadelphia has rolled out a soft launch of a new municipal identification program called PHL City ID.
Beginning this week, residents can go to City Hall this week to obtain what the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association called a “safe, secure, and affordable government issued photo ID.”
According to the PCUA, the city’s managing director’s office is inviting credit unions to confirm partnership with the city and to accept the PHL City ID Card as either a primary or secondary form of identification to open accounts.
According to the city, the PHL City ID will be accepted for use with all city services and city-funded programs, and can be used to open a financial account, access health services, check out library books, sign into schools and city buildings, and to get discounts at select museums and entertainment venues.
The card, available to anyone 13 or older, costs $5 for those age 13-18, $10 for people age 18-64, and is free to adults 65 and older.
The city is planning a full press event and public launch on April 4.
