Pennsylvania Rep Seeking To Increase Penalties For Skimmers

HARRISBURG, Penn.­–State Representative Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York County) held an event here on legislation she is backing that seeks to crack down on the use of credit and debit card skimmers.

Phillips-Hill has submitted House Bill 1918 to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. The legislation would update and upgrade Pennsylvania law to help prevent, eliminate and punish the use of skimmers often placed on gas pumps and ATMs.

Phillips-Hill cited figures showing more than $2 billion is stolen via skimmers every year.

During the event at the Capitol Media Center, a number of representatives from the business community and law enforcement spoke in favor of the bill, including Patrick Conway, president of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association.
