Pencil It In: Heritage South Community CU Names New CEO

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn..–Heritage South Community Credit Union has named a successor to its retiring CEO. The $122-million credit union said that when its long-time leader, Marvin McBee, retires on 

Marvin McBee, Laura L. Parham

March 31, 2019, he will be succeeded by Laura L. Parham as chief executive.

McBee has been with Heritage South Community CU for more than 36 years, having joined the CU when it was known as EPCO Credit Union and was located inside the Empire Pencil. He was the third manager/CEO of the SEG-based CU, which at the time had one employee and about $1 million assets.

Today, the credit union has grown to 80 employees and nearly 25,000 members served by five offices.

Parham has been with Heritage South since 1984.

"We have the original owners and management of Empire Pencil Company to thank for the existence of Heritage South Community Credit Union, but the members and staff have Marvin McBee to thank for the contributions of this credit union to our community," Parham said in a statement. "Without Marvin's vision, tenacity, and commitment to innovation there would not be a Heritage South as we know it today."
