COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio Credit Union League is lamenting the announcement by a member of the state's congressional delegation that he plans to resign early.
Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH) said he plans to resign his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives by January. Tiberi has expressed frustration with Congress and the nature of the political situation in Washington. Several reports have indicated Tiberi plans to join an Ohio-based trade association.
“On behalf of Ohio’s 278 credit unions and their nearly three million members, we offer our sincerest best wishes to Congressman Tiberi on his future endeavors," said OCUL CEO Paul Mercer. "The business community has gained an exceptional advocate, while the 12th district has lost a long-serving legislator that fought to represent the principles of his constituents, who routinely sent him to back to Washington. We certainly appreciate Rep. Tiberi fighting for less government intrusion throughout his tenure in Congress, believing credit unions do their best work when the not-for-profit, cooperative model is unimpeded by overregulation. Most important, we know Rep. Tiberi will enjoy more time with his wife Denice, their four daughters, and their many friends in Central Ohio. We congratulate Rep. Tiberi on the indelible mark and lasting legacy he leaves behind, and look forward to what may lie ahead.”
