ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.–PSCU kicked off its 24-hour-long Knockout competition here and in Honolulu yesterday, with teams racing to put together their concepts and ideas by the deadline of 10 a.m. local time in both locations.
The teams will then make seven-minute presentations to teams of five judges beginning at noon locally at the respective PSCU facilities.
PSCU KnockOut 2016 is a 24-hour collaborative innovation event in which employees from credit unions, leagues and PSCU itself form teams to create concepts and prototypes related to payments. The winning idea, which will be selected after the proposals are narrowed down and then opened to public voting, is then taken by PSCU and put into the market.
This is the fifth year the company has hosted the competition. For the first time a representative from Apple will be among the judges in St. Petersburg. PSCU has developed a partnership with Apple, which is involved with the CUSO’s Innovation Lab.
“We expect KnockOut 2016 to deliver another round of bold ideas that can ultimately be brought to market and make a real impact on the payments industry, which is evidenced by previous KnockOut winners,” said Chuck Fagan, PSCU CEO and president. “PSCU prides itself on partnering with credit unions to enable growth and provide an unparalleled member experience, and one way we do this is through collaboration at events like KnockOut.”
