PFCU Office Evacuated As Authorities Test White Powder From ‘Suspicious’ Package

EUGENE, Ore.—A suspicious package containing white powder has evacuated an office of the $18-billion Pentagon FCU here as Investigators test the substance.

The Register-Guard reports that the Oregon State Fire Marshal, Eugene Metro Bomb Squad, Eugene police and fire officials have arrived at the CU office located on Country Club Road. The credit union is located next to the police department.

Everyone inside the CU has been evacuated with the exception of a couple of employees who were in the immediate vicinity of the package when it was opened, according to police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin.

McLaughlin told The Register-Guard it may be a few hours before the testing is complete.

A fire alarm was sounded at the building as part of a standard company protocol to evacuate the building, McLaughlin said.

Pentagon FCU is based in Alexandria, Va.
