NEW CASTLE, Del.–The Delaware CU League triggered an “environment emergency” and had to evacuate its building after attempting to open a more than 20-year-old safe.
According to the league, the save had been in the basement of the building it purchased in 1992 and came with the property.
“Although precautions were taken prior to attempting to open it, a security feature of the safe still functioned – sending noxious fumes into the building,” the league reported. “The building was evacuated and emergency personnel responded in full force, including a hazardous materials unit from Kent County. Once the building was declared safe to enter, normal operations resumed.”
And what was in the safe? Keys.
